The
music business is a tough business to get into and stay in. People all around
the world illegally download music daily, which hinders the success of artist
in the business. This is not fair to the artist, the record company, and the
fans. In this video clip they show a creative way of how a music pirate steals
from an artist. They show several different ways that are all real ways pirates
steal.
This
video uses a teenage girl and several men stealing cars, purses, TV’s, and CD’s
to show how relatable a pirate can be to anyone. They also used dark colors to
show sneaky bad behavior. This is trying to show that bad things are done at
the night. The girl in the video is being used to show that even though she is
a young teenage girl that she steals music too. No matter the age or sex that a
pirate is a pirate. That’s why their main point in the video was, “YOU’RE A
PIRATE!” They used many broad topics to describe the way men steal. Those
different examples happen all the time. It connects to how easy it is to steal
those items to how easy it is to steal illegal music too. This was a clever way
visually connect those different topics to music piracy.
The
reason artist and record company’s are so anal about making sure piracy is not
happening is because its not cheap for them to pay for the artist studio time,
music video visuals, and tour expenses. One of the highest selling females
groups were one of the most broke groups in the history of the music business.
People weren’t stealing their music, but their manager was. They tell us at the
Grammy’s that they can 56 million albums and still are broke. This shocked many
fans and even myself. After seeing how
they the member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez explained the cost of being a music
artist it made me reconsider stealing music illegally.
After
seeing this I realized how much money it cost to be an artist and how important
it is for them to make money off album sells. If they don’t make enough money
back they can end up in debt because of the expenses. I personally don’t want
to fail in life, so why would I want my favorite artist to fail. I rather them
succeed and be able to support their lifestyles, just like me. This video
breaks down the cost and everything so you know exactly how much money your
cheating an artist out of their own money. Music piracy isn’t a joke and can
hurt the people you least expect it too.
I agree with this blog post. Something really needs to be done about this issue. These artists, especially the ones that are just starting out and have little money, need to be paid what they are due. And when people illegally steal their music, they do not get what they deserve. I don't see what really be done about the problem though because millions of people do it each and every day. It's a problem that deals with people's morals, because even though stealing music does not seem like a big deal, you are still stealing from others and that is a problem.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very thought provoking blog post. The videos you chose were great at getting the message across. People often have the mentality that artists are rich and that piracy wont hurt them but this would make someone think twice.
