Goodell's Good or Bad Decision?

To play in the National Football League is a dream for many young kids. When they grow up they want to play for their favorite team which is often the team that represents the city or state they live in. Although, it is possible for a fan to like a team from a different state other than the one they live in. In this short video the commissioner Roger Goodell is standing in front of many reporters at the super bowl, looking very professional in his nice suit, to tell them what he believes to be good news.

The good news that both games that will be played in London this season were sold out months before the games were to be played. Goodell tells this news in an interview at the super bowl because he knows that the super bowl is on a big stage and that many Americans are going to spend their Sunday night watching the game so then they will also watch his interview. See the interview Here

Also since the interview is during the same time as the super bowl you can see in the video that everything is football, you see the two helmets for the teams that are playing in the super bowl (San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens) and the Lombardi trophy behind them. Also, viewers can see all of the NFL logos around the room not to mention the big screen behind the commissioner, which is huge and it has the super bowl logo. Not to mention the black color on the stage, this is also more of a color liked by men. The screen is also blue which is known to be more of a color that men like not women and football is also a man’s sport because they are the people that play it.

Is that good news? Even though the games were sold out does not mean that if a team were to be based out of London that each time the team played at home that the game is going to be sold out. I am sure that for every team that moved from city to city had their new stadium’s games sold out for the first few games or at least until the fans started to realize that going to the games was not as exciting as the first one. In the interview Roger Goodell seems to be very pleased with the news he has just told the reporters (even though he does not show much emotion because he never really does) but if a team were to move to London would their fans stay faithful to their team or change sides to their next team in line.

All in all, I still do not agree that an NFL team should be moved to London because the commissioner believes that the game is expanding worldwide. I believe that it is just a way for the NFL to make more money but I do not believe it is the right way to make the money.

  1. It is interesting that American football is receiving attention worldwide. I find that surprising since some countries call it "the lazy man's sport" because there is not constant movement throughout the game unlike soccer or rugby. I agree that it will only be popular at first because it is new. It will be like a child playing with a new toy before he or she gets bored with it and wants more.
