Killing a Person with Simple Words

Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place using electronic devices. According to stopbullying.gov these devices include cell phones, computer, and tablets. The communication of cyber bullying is done through chat rooms, social media websites, text messages, and email. Many people are affected by cyber bullying every day, and it has grown over the years due to the increase of technology usage.

Cyber bullying is very mean it includes starting rumors, making fake profiles, and uploading embarrassing pictures of videos of some without their permission. Many people who do these things are anonymous because they don’t want to get in trouble. This makes it very hard to track down the main person or group who may have done the act. Once something gets posted online it may become very difficult for it to be taken down, and forgotten by many peers. When something is posted online it becomes property of the public. I say this because now a day’s people can download videos and pictures to their phone. There is also the use of screen shot which is taking a snap shot of an image on the internet. This is something people can do on both computers and many cell phones.  I have done this plenty of times so that I can keep a picture from the internet without going back to the website every time.

There is one cyber bullying video that really stuck out to me, and it was a video created by Robert H. Adams Middle School seventh graders in Holliston, Massachusetts. The visual elements in my opinion were very powerful and touching. This video analysis how affective the things you put on the internet can be. When the video starts you see three young girls sitting in a chair with their faces down representing disappointment or sadness. This represents a lack of confidence, and by having their heads down it also shows a lack of acceptance to the rest of the world. It is very hard to face the world when you have false rumors being stated, and especially when you can’t get rid of them. Many individuals start to believe in the things people say because you get immune to that representation of yourself and this is what is being showed in the first 35 seconds of the video.

They then began to open the laptops on their laps the first laptop said they, the other one sad call, and the last one says us. When they first do this you get confused and it makes you think like “they call you what”. It makes you question yourself or even the video. Once the three girls hold up their heads they read in this order wimp, freak, and ugly on their foreheads. This is a representation of being labeled. You feel like it is written on your body, but in reality it’s not. They just use this to make a statement. The looks on their faces are very sad, and it affects you because people can be so cruel to call someone those three simple words. It makes a person lack self-esteem and can develop into a more serious issue like suicide. It can also lead to alcohol abuse and drug abuse in many situations of the problem isn't’t solved. Like the video states, “words cut, carve, and shape like knives”. This could be a quote that represents suicide being the knife. At the end you see the girls take those very nasty simple words and turn them into something positive. The word wimp turns in to I am strong, freak turns into I am unique, and ugly turns into I am beautiful. These are the type of words many individuals need to put into their heads and eject the nasty ones. This video definitely was used to create an emotion of sadness and get people to actually pay attention to the harmful words they say. I just hope people will listen. You can control your emotions don’t let them control you.
