Saving A Life
The most misunderstood dog in America is the American pit bull terrier. The dog that was once used as the image for the All American Dog is now being persecuted. Laws being passed and the negative image associated with the breed is leaving shelters overfilled with pit bulls. In large cities, pit bulls make up 40%-65% of shelter's intake. Most pit bulls are given a chance to be adopted and if they don't get adopted after a certain time they are euthanized. There is a 93% euthanasia rate for pit bulls and that means that 2,800 are euthanized per day. That is a shocking number but even more shocking is that only 1 in 600 pit bulls find a permanent home. All this information could be found here.
What could be done to solve this problem? One thing that could be done is to adopt these wonderful dogs. They are really the best dog you could get and many people could agree. They make great companions and are known for being loyal to their owners. Contrary to popular belief they are great with kids so you don't have to worry if there are little kids in the family. Overall pit bulls are one of the most friendly dogs there is out there, because they just want to be around you all the time. Every pit bull is different and fit every life style out there. There are pit bulls that are always in a mellow mood if you like to sit and relax. There are also pit bulls that are a little bit more hyper if your an active person.

There are many organizations that are working to fix the bad image that is associated with pit bulls. One of these organizations is called Villa Lobos Rescue Center. They have a website you could visit and they have a show that helps people see what these dogs go through. They do a lot of thing to help pit bulls get adopted and break that negative image. They go around saving pit bulls so that they have a chance of getting adopted instead of getting euthanized as soon as they get to the shelter. One thing I really like about their adoption process is that they make sure that the dog will fit in with the family. They let the family see dogs that fit their lifestyle and needs. Then they do a house check where they see if the family's yard is suitable for the dog.

People should really consider adopting a pit bull because your not just making a best friend but saving a life as well. These dogs are being killed over stereotypes that aren't accurate. The media has been doing everything in their power to make these dogs look like monsters. This is not fair at all and these dogs should be given a chance to live. If more people go and adopt pit bulls then there will be more people that could prove all these accusations wrong. Then the breed could once again be considered as great as they used to be.
